HUNDREDS of teenagers are gathering in Cork city centre on Saturdays, with businesses becoming concerned by the menacing and intimidating atmosphere they’re creating.
At least 300 teenage boys and girls gathered in the Winthrop Street/Patrick Street area last Saturday with one youth arrested for drunkeness. Gardaí said that the previous Saturday, an organised fight took place on William Street, one of the narrow side streets off Patrick Street.
One youth was arrested and taken to the Bridewell garda station for assault.
A small number of others were taken to the station and their parents were contacted, after they were found drinking alcohol.
Gardaí mounted a special operation in the city on Saturday, aimed at reducing inconvenience to businesses in the city centre and to tackle any public order issues.
