Anna Paquin has spoken out about the misconceptions surrounding her sexuality.

The 'True Blood' actress, who announced she was bisexual in 2010, made a point about some people using the label to cover up being gay.

She told the new issue of Zooey magazine: "I'm sure for some people saying they're bisexual feels less scary than making a statement that they're gay."

However the 29-year-old, who plays Sookie Stackhouse in the series, stated that using the term actually means more than being undecided for her.

"For me, it's not really an issue because I'm someone who believes being bisexual is actually a thing. It's not made up. It's not a lack of decision. It's not being greedy or numerous other ignorant things I've heard at this point.

"For a bisexual, it's not about gender. That's not the deciding factor for who they're attracted to."

Paquin is currently expecting her first child with her husband and co-star Stephen Moyer.

The actor, who plays vampire Bill Compton on the show, has two children from a previous marriage.
