Health Minister James Reilly is reported to be seriously considering a new €1.2bn medical hub in Dublin.

According to today's Irish Independent, the proposed centre would be built on a greenfield site near Dublin Airport and would include a national children's hospital and a relocated Beaumont Hospital.

It is understood the plan has not formally gone to Cabinet and it remains unclear whether Labour ministers or management at Beaumont Hospital have been consulted.

The plan is also understood to have been discussed with Arab, American and Chinese investors.
