A 24-hour drive-through restaurant to be built next to the Esso petrol station on the South City City Link Road Road near the Elysian has been ruled out by council planners.
However, planning permission has been granted to demolish the existing filling station and replace it with an upgraded facility.
The premises is one of the busiest filling stations in the city due to its location and low-priced fuel.
SDR Developments sought permission from the council to demolish the petrol station and canopy, and replace it with a single-storey forecourt shop and service area covering 251-square metres.
The application also included plans for a three-storey, mixed-use building to be constructed on the waste ground to the south of the Hibernian Road Footbridge which crosses over the South Link.
This building would include a 24-hour drive-through restaurant and a bulky goods retail showroom on the ground floor with offices on the first and second floors.
Last month planners in City Hall granted permission for the redevelopment of the petrol station and the construction of the three-storey building, but imposed 13 conditions.
One of those conditions called on the developers to submit revised plans removing the planned drive-through, saying that and said such a proposal should be the subject of a separate planning application.
This is not the first drive-through restaurant to be rejected by city council planners this year. In February plans for the renovation of the Discount Fuels Filling Station on Harbour View Road were granted permission.
However proposals for a drive-through at the same location were rejected by the council.
