It sounds like a dream you’d try hard to forget, but a group of people are getting ready to cycle through the city wearing nothing but body paint.
And they’ll be hoping they’ll be celebrating breaking a new Guinness World Record.
The ‘Naked Bike Ride’ is now an annual event, with similar cycles held globally in a bid to force motorists to sit up and take notice of the dangers posed for bikers.
Before this year’s event, taking place on Saturday, July 28 from the Camden Palace Hotel, participants are being asked to join artists and models in helping set a new bodypainting record. People not taking part in the cycle are also encouraged to come along to the Camden Palace Hotel and help set the new record, from 9.30am.
The record bid is being organised by Cork Body Painting in association with Camden Palace Hotel.
Cork Body Painting is a non-profit organisation that runs quarterly body painting events, where artists and models meet to create art on a moving canvas. Unlike tattoo and other forms of body art, it’s temporary and lasts for only several hours.
The record currently stands at 264 people and was set by the American Body Arts Festival at Brushwood Folklore Centre in Sherman, New York, on July 21, 2007.
If taking part, a donation is appreciated as both Cork Body Painting and Camden Palace Hotel are non-profit organisations.
Keira O’Connell, one of the organisers, said the attempt would be a “positive and liberating experience”.
For those taking part in the cycle afterwards, she said: “You don’t feel as naked in the cycle when you are covered in bodypaint. We are looking for all shapes and sizes to take part on the day.
