Cork County Council is to push ahead with plans for a new town outside Blarney that will be bigger than Carrigaline and Glanmire.

The council is to hold a press conference on Monday when it will confirm that it is moving ahead with its plans for a new town at Monard.
It intends to rezone 1,000 acres of green fields, with plans for 8,000 homes, a third-level institution, schools, and large amenity areas.
The project is expected to be delivered over a 20 to 25-year timeframe and is designed to kick in when the economic recession ends.
