Met Éireann says it has received unconfirmed reports from three people of a tornado in Co. Donegal.

It happened over Sliabh Sneacht in Inishowen at 11.30am. There has been heavy and intense thundery showers in the area since the tornado was spotted.

The Met Office says the radar was showing heavy echoes adding that tornadoes were possible in such conditions, with a possibility of more over the next 24 to 48 hours.

John O'Raw from Buncrana took pictures of the tornado and told Highland Radio what he saw: "Myself and my daughter Niamh were standing in front of our house. Turning around we could see the tornado to the north of Buncrana.

"It was absolutely enormous, it must have been between 500 and 700 metres long."
