THE Evening Echo is today celebrating a special milestone — our 120th birthday.
On this date, in 1892, the first ever edition of Cork’s favourite newspaper was published. Since then the Evening Echo has chronicled all the pivotal moments in the history of the city and county, in both news and sport, and has been at the heart of community life.
Tributes have been flowing into the office from all sorts of famous personalities — from Bill O’Herlihy to the current Taoiseach, Enda Kenny — to wish us well.
Maurice Gubbins, editor of the paper, said: “Today we celebrate the Evening Echo’s  bond with the people of Cork and remember the great people who have worked in creating, distributing and selling the Echo.”
