Taoiseach Enda Kenny said this morning that Ministers and TDs are tired ahead of their summer break.

Deputy Kenny was speaking on his way into the final Cabinet meeting before September, after a Dáil term that has seen reports of tension between the coalition parties.

A number of items are on the agenda, including public sector allowances, legislation to cut the number of TDs and a report on the state of child protection services in Ireland.

"I think they're all tired," he said. "This has been a long session.

"The Dáil has been sitting on Fridays, it sat late for June and July.

"I didn't hear any clamours that the Dáil should be sitting for longer hours."
