John Owens has decided to call time on his three-year stint as manager of the Waterford senior footballers.
Owens will not be seeking another term in charge after Déise suffered back-to-back defeats in this summer's Championship, going down to Limerick and Wicklow.
A statement from the Waterford County Board read: "John Owens, senior football manager, has stepped down from the position at the end of his term. Thanks to John for three years of work and commitment."
Owens' charges, who finished mid-table in Division 4 this year, put it up to Wicklow in their first round qualifier despite having the talismanic Gary Hurney sent off in the 26th minute.
Paul Whyte's sharpshooting had them on the cusp of a gritty win, but Wicklow forced extra-time and finished strongly for a 1-17 to 0-15 victory.
Although 2012 was marked by disappointing results, Owens can look back on his tenure with pride, particularly the Championship wins over Clare and London, while gaining promotion from Division 4 in 2010 was another highlight.
