Mitchelstown after a slow start were well on top in this Rebel Og Northern Region MAFC game at Kildorrery on Thursday evening.  Buttevant short
key players Ronan O’Donovan, Sean Flynn, Jason Oliver, Noel Cullen and Luke Ring took the lead when Brian O’Shaughnessy pointed a 4th minute free. Mitchelstown had a number of chances but had to wait till the 15th minute when Jason Cott pointed. The winners struck a purple patch with Michael Walsh, Liam Allen, Jason Cott and Dylan Considine doing very well added points by Dylan Considine, Michael Walsh (2) Jason Cott to move ahead 0-5 to 0-1.
Further Mitchelstown pressure led to Michael Walsh giving a good delivery to Anthony Fitzgibbon who punched to the net in injury time giving the winners a 0-6 to 0-1 interval lead.
Buttevant had a goal from a Brian O’Shaughnessy penalty in the 34th minute.
However, Mitchelstown recovered well using the short passing to good effect.  Points in quick succession by Michael Walsh (2) and Joe O’Sullivan
opened up 0-9 to 1- 2 advantage.  Buttevant improved with John Buckley, Edmund O’Neill, Anthony O Neill, Seamus Madigan Shane Walsh, and Brian
O’Shaughnessy doing well. They had a number of wides and had their third score (all frees) in the 48th minute when O’Shaughnessy pointed a free. Both sides exchanged a point before Buttevant came within a point when Edmund and Anthony O’Neill combined well for Shane Walsh who goaled from close range and cut the deficit to a single point 0-10 to 2-3. Both sides were reduced to 14 men in the closing moments. Buttevant tried very hard to secure a late point to force extra time. However Mitchelstown backs held firm and in a very good run out of defence Michael Walsh goaled with three minutes to go.  Brian O’Shaughnessy replied with a Buttevant point when he kicked over from a tight angle as the game entered injury time. The final whistle followed with Mitchelstown holding out for a semi final meeting with Dromtarriffe.
