JOHN COUGHLAN
Carrigaline 1-16
Duhallow 0-10
A MAGNIFICENT all round performance by Carrigaline ensured they overcame Duhallow in the Rebel Og Premier 1 Minor hurling championship at CIT last night.
This was a game that had honest endevour and honesty from the throw in but a terrific second half scoring blitz by Carrigaline saw off the brave Duhallow side Both sides traded three points apiece up to the eight-minute following a superb Peter Mullanepoint that levelled the game for Carrigaline.
The physical power of Mullane stood out in this game and his basketball skills were shown at their best at times when he caught some terrific high balls.
Jamie DePuis showed nice touches and a late point from the young Carrigaline star saw them lead by the minimum at the break 0-7 to 0-6.
Carrigaline looked determined on the restart and following an excellent Killian McIntyre point in the opening minute they were awarded a penalty after full forward David O’Donovan was hauled to the ground.
Up stepped DePuis but his penalty strike was superbly saved by the Duhallow keeper.
Credit to Duhallow they kept battling and with Shane Crowley showing some lovely touches and excellent striking they reduced the deficit to the minimum in the 39th minute.
Suddenly the pendulum swung firmly in Carrigaline’s direction and the scoring avalanche began when Daniel O’Reilly drilled home a fabulous goal in the 40th minute.
The floodgates opened and inspired by the excellent Kevin O’Connell and McIntyre they scored the crucial poonts that finally saw off the brave Duhallow challenge.
