Robert Heffernan finished fourth in the 50km walk at the Olympics today, smashing the Irish record by seven minutes and 54 seconds.

He finished one minute 55 seconds behind the winner in a time of three hours 37 minutes and 54 seconds.

Olive Loughnane will be walking in the 20km race at 5pm today.
