A MAN was taken to hospital last night after he was attacked near the Mardyke park in Cork. The man, who is believed to be in his twenties and from Togher, was  in a field next to the Mardyke when he was attacked by four or five other men at around 10.30pm.
One of the men is understood to have been wielding a hammer.
The victim, who was taken to Cork University Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, is believed to have know his attackers. Gardaí have preserved the scene and a forensic examination was due to be carried out this morning.
