Camden Jimmy owned by Leap based ITHRF members John Shanahan and Aiden Hayes from Leap landed the spoils in the Des Kelly Interiors National 3 year old pacing championship at Portmarnock Raceway on Sunday last . Heats of this prestigious event were held on the Saturday evening .Camden Jimmy driven by Patrick Kane jnr from Summerhill in County Meath set the standard in his heat coasting to an effortless eight length victory. In Sundays final Long Slow Kisses who had previously won the Scottish 3yr old Grass Championship at Musselburgh and the North Wales Standardbred Association 3 yr old Derby in Tir Prince Raceway Rhyl North Wales was sent to post as favourite with Camden Jimmy who drew number eight in line two next choice in the market.
At flagfall Springhill Talker made the early running with Kane making an early race move . After the opening quarter of a mile Camden Jimmy was sent to the front with favourite Long slow Kisses not leaving his rival get too far ahead . Heading in to the final quarter Long Slow kisses joined Camden Jimmy and looked a winner .
In the final furlong the English visitors in the record crowd sensed victory but Camden Jimmy pulled out one last effort and got the judges verdict by a length from Long slow Kisses with Meadowbranch Spark a further 7 lengths back in third .
The Portmarnock crowd gave the winner and runner up a rapturous ovation when both horses returned to the winners enclosure .
