If you're in Mayo and missing an engagement ring, a local organisation might have good news for you.

The Mayo Mountain Rescue Group was collecting in Westport on Saturday, and when they counted their takings, they found a diamond ring in the cash.

They are now trying to reunite the ring with its owner, who can contact them or gardaĆ in Westport on 098 50230.

Robert Hunt, the rescue group's fundraising officer, said that he couldn't believe what he found when counting the collection.

"It appeared to be a diamond ring of some sort," he said.

"We weren't sure if it was worth a fiver or €5,000, you know?

"We contacted the GardaĆ, we actually brought the ring to a local jewellers, and they confirmed that it is of significant value, it is a real diamond ring, so we're in the hunt for the rightful owner."
