Brian Boru Bridge will re-open to traffic on schedule on Monday following a month of works.
The closure of the bridge has resulted in long diversions for traffic entering the city centre. However, the National Roads Authority who are carrying out the repairs said the work was progressing well.
The work on the bridge includes stripping it of its old paintwork and applying a new coating.
Work is also taking place underneath the bridge and while there has been more corrosion discovered than anticipated, it is within manageable limits.
However, it will mean that work will continue into October on the underside of the bridge.
Daragh Quill, regional bridge manager with the NRA, said they had accelerated work on the topside to ensure it can re-open to traffic on time.
“The topside is going well and a lot of effort is being made to enure there is no undue delay in reopening the bridge,” he said.
“The underside is a little different. It is in a tidal area so work will take longer to complete — but that will not affect traffic,” he added.
ESB Networks, who are carrying out roadworks on the South City Link Road, also said their works are going to schedule.
The road has been reduced to a single carriageway as they install ducting for new cables.
The full carriageway is set to re-open on Monday, August 27.
