Meet the extraordinary baby who has defied the odds since he was born in March: Living miracle Lee Cotter from Mayfield.
Lee’s parents Aisling Considine and Alan Cotter and his older brother Joe have marvelled at the youngster, who refuses to stop fighting despite numerous heart problems. Lee has two holes in his heart, a right ventricle defect, great arteries defect and has suffered a critical heart rate on two occasions.
Each time he has fought back through his parents’ love and with the support of staff at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin. Now the family are fund-raising to help the hospital where Lee is receiving life-saving care. Aisling said: “He is amazing. He has just made up his mind to battle every time.
“We don’t care what it takes, we will always fight along the way with him. I can’t tell you how proud I am.”
Aisling and Alan said that they were shocked at how outdated the infant centre building was in Crumlin, considering the work that the world-class staff do there.
A spokesperson for the hospital said: “We are always grateful for fund-raising like Lee’s event; the facilities need serious upgrading for the sake of the children.”
A free charity gig for Crumlin organised by Lee’s aunt Anne Marie Considine will take place on Friday week in The Bowery nightclub. Aisling and 41 or her friends will also team up for the Evening Echo Women’s Mini Marathon in September.
In 2011, 455 Cork children stayed in Crumlin as inpatients, while 1,665 were outpatients.
