Home-owners in Cork county have one of the worst payment records for the €100 Household Charge with just 57% paying the tax.
Only seven other counties have a lower payment level. The figures from the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) come as the Government and councils made a renewed effort this week to urge homeowners to pay the charge.
Nationally just 61.27% of homeowners have paid the charge. The County with the highest compliance level is Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown with 81% paying the charge. The lowest compliance level is Donegal where only 49% of homeowners have paid. While Cork County’s payment level is at 56.95%, the compliance level in Cork City is higher at 62.16%.
Just seven other councils have a lower payment record than Cork County.
The LGMA said legal action could be taken in the coming months against those who haven’t paid the tax.
So far more than 100 million has been received from 990,459 households. A further 19,490 waivers have been received
