A LIFELINE service for elderly people in Cork is facing a crisis after the HSE announced savage cutbacks to its home helps system.
The HSE is cutting 600,000 home help hours nationally and also says it will not be providing automatic cover for home helps on holiday leave.
Paddy O’Brien, a former Cork Person of the Year, said: “The whole thing is disgraceful. Elderly people at home are entitled to proper care. These new hours are inadequate and immoral. We are going to hear about fatalities because of this.”
