THERE are now  45,299 people on the dole in Cork city and county — up from 44,973 when the Government came to power in March 2011.
In the city there are  20,337 people signing-on, with the remaining 25,000 spread across the county.
Midleton has the highest number of people on the dole of  all the county towns, at 3,283. Mallow is next highest at 2,846, while Fermoy had 2,747 people claiming dole in August. The next highest was Carrigaline at 2,513.  Last month, there was a decrease in the numbers signing on of 769 people to 45,299.
