IRISH boxing team manager Paddy Gallagher reckons that experience will stand to Cork’s Oliver McCarthy at the 2012 European Schoolboy Championships in Anapa, Russia.
McCarthy, who boxes out of the Brian Dillons BC in Cork, will wear the Irish 46kg vest at the 10th edition of the Championships at the Black Sea holiday resort next month.
The talented young Leesider represented Ireland at the 2011 European Championships in Gronzy, Russia.
Boxing at 40kg in Grozny, he beat Alexandr Berdnik of Belarus in his opening bout but then lost out to eventual gold medalist, Sulyeman Bammatov of Russia.
The squad have been preparing at the National Stadium in Dublin for the Continental deciders in recent weeks and Irish team manager Gallagher is quietly confident.
