The Government is insisting the proposed property tax - to be introduced next year - will be fair and affordable for people.

The coalition is rejecting a proposal from the IMF - to introduce a 0.5% tax on the value of the property - as "too high".

Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore has said that the finer details of the tax have yet to be decided.
