Gardaí investigating the shooting of a 25-year-old man at Burrin Road, Carlow, in the early hours of this morning have arrested a man in his early 40s.

The man was arrested this evening during a search at house in Carlow town.

He is detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939, at Carlow garda station.

The victim - a 25-year-old man - was hit in his knee and stomach in the attack in the early hours of this morning at the front door of his home.

His injuries are not life-threatening.

Gardaí said the man was shot at 2.25am after answering a call to his door.
