GARDAÍ have located CCTV images that are expected to form a significant part of their investigation into the death of grandfather Patsy Deasy.
Mr Deasy, left, aged 57, lost his fight for life yesterday afternoon at Cork University Hospital after he was assaulted outside a pub in Mahon in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Gardaí were today awaiting the results of an autopsy, expected this afternoon, before deciding what direction their investigation would take.
Mr Deasy is understood to have been struck outside the pub, hitting his head as he fell.
The city council worker from McGrath Park, Blackrock, had been on life-support after he suffered severe head injuries in the incident outside a pub the Red Cove Inn on Avenue de Rennes in Mahon shortly before 1am on Saturday. He had been attending a 60th birthday party in the pub with his wife, Ann, before the incident occurred.
Gardaí have spoken to a number of witnesses and trawled through CCTV footage of the area as part of the investigation into his death.
It’s understood gardaí have located CCTV images of the area at the time the incident occurred and are following a definite line of inquiry. Meanwhile, tributes were paid to the former city council worker by the Lord Mayor and city manager at a meeting in City Hall last night. Mr Deasy  was an outdoor worker in the parks section and had been an employee of the city council for more than  25 years.
Lord Mayor John Buttimer offered his sympathies to Mr Deasy’s family, while city manager Tim Lucey said:  “He was a very valued member of staff and my sympathies, and those of the entire city council, are with his family.” Cllr Terry Shannon said Mr Deasy gave years of loyal service to the city.
