A ROW has broken out over the unveiling of plaques by the previous Lord Mayor which one councillor said was
politically motivated.
Fine Gael councillor Laura McGonigle said she was angry that three plaques were unveiled by the then Lord Mayor Cllr Terry Shannon for what she said are minor projects in his South East Ward two days before he handed over the chain of office.
And Cllr McGonigle said one of the plaques was for a project that has not even started yet.
However, Cllr Shannon rejected the claim saying it was standard practice for the Lord Mayor to unveil plaques for city council projects.
The plaques erected were for three projects; landscaping works at Lindville Park in Blackrock; enhancement works in Kennedy Park on the Monahan Road; and a third plaque to mark the commencement of works to replace the pontoon on the Marina.
Cllr McGonigle, who is also based in the South East Ward, said the plaques are a waste of taxpayer’s money costing 300 each.
