THE action photo of Davin O’Neill alongside Barcelona’s Lionel Messi on the cover of EA Sports video game Fifa 13 will boost and enhance the profile of Cork City FC worldwide.
The Cobh man, along with Sligo Rovers striker Mark Quigley, were chosen for the cover of the Irish edition of Fifa 13, which was launched in Dublin yesterday.
“It’s a great thrill for me to be photographed and used on the cover alongside a player of Messi’s world class talent,” said O’Neill today.
“It’s been exciting for my kids too, my son Kai (4) and daughter Abbi (8), who both attend Rushbrooke National School here in Cobh,” said Davin, who works as a naval electrician at Haulbowline.
“The PFAI and extra-time.ie soccer website got together on the project and chose a player from each club in the league and then the fans voted to pick two for the cover and myself and Mark were lucky enough to be selected,” explained O’Neill.
“You can now download and insert the Irish edition cover into your own game box, The Irish cover version is just to personalise and give local appeal to the new Fifa 13 game box set,” he added.
Cork City are back in the game this season after a two-year absence because they were in Division One. The club aren’t in league action this weekend, but face Midleton in a friendly at 7.30pm tomorrow.
