A CORKMAN is on the verge of major international success as a comic book artist after being chosen to illustrate a comic version of the Eighties TV hit MacGyver.
Will Sliney from Ballycotton has already worked with some of the biggest names in the business having illustrated Star Wars comics for George Lucas.
As a result, Lee Zlotoff, the creator of the MacGyver character, picked Will to illustrate a new five comic series that will be launched in New York next month.
Currently living on Barrack Street, the CIT Multimedia graduate said he has been working in the comic industry for a while now spending time in the US building up a profile and portfolio.
“I have worked on various comics, doing work for George Lucas on Star Wars and Jim Henson, and then jumped at the opportunity when I heard Lee Zlotoff was producing a comic of MacGyver.”
A major TV hit in the Eighties and Nineties, MacGyver is a secret agent who hates guns and prefers to solve problems using his knowledge of science and raw materials he finds around him.
“I was a big fan of MacGyver. You couldn’t escape it when you were a kid so it’s great to be working on a comic book version of.”
The five comic book series will also be produced as a book and they will be sold all over the world with possibly more on the way.
It was previewed at Comic Con in San Diego, a major comic convention, and the full comic will be launched in New York next month.
“As well as MacGyver I am also working an my own comic book about Cú Chulainn. It’s great to work on an Irish character and that will be launched in Ireland next March.”
