20 years on it’s time to party at Fred Zeppelins

ICONIC Cork rock bar Fred Zeppelins is turning 20 this week and is celebrating its birthday with a series of concerts.

A mainstay on the Cork music scene for two decades, Fred Zeppelins is renowned for giving Cork outfits a leg up, as well as giving a first-start for many Irish bands. Kodaline are just one who cut their teeth at Freds, with the chart-toppers playing their second ever gig at the Parliament St venue.

Twenty years on, Fred Zeppelins continues to support up-and-coming acts, with a weekly programme of original live music.

To celebrate its milestone, the band is turning back the clock to 1997. Teaming up with the Franciscan Well, customers will be able to enjoy a pint of Rebel Red at 1997 prices. The beer will be just €3 per pint between 8pm and 10pm on Saturday, November 18.

Speaking ahead of celebrations, owner Tom Keating said, "Cork's nightlife has changed a lot over the last 20 years and we've seen many great venues and come and go. Our 20th birthday celebration is dedicated to our patrons and lovers of live music all over Cork, who have kept coming back to this little rock bar on Parliament Bridge to enjoy great music over the last two decades.

"We are very proud to be reaching this 20-year milestone in business and this party is just the start, as we intend to continue celebrating through to early 2018 with several more free and surprise events to take place."

A busy programme of gigs will mark the occasion, with River Matthews (Weds, November 15), Cider Wasps (Thurs, November 16), Ledz Prescence (Saturday, November 18) and Wild Front (Thurs, November 30) just some of the acts lined up over the coming weeks.
