More student apartments granted permission on Coca-cola site

PLANNING permission has been granted for more student apartments in Cork.

Permission is already in place for a 92 student apartments on the former Coca-Cola bottling site on the Carrigrohane Straight Road in buildings ranging from four to seven storeys.

The site has since been demolished but work has yet to begin on the new development.

In March, the developer Gainstar Limited Partnership lodged a new application for an extra 74 beds.

This will increase the number of overall beds from 410 to 484.

They also sought permission want to reduce the basement car parking area to provide 25 basement spaces along with modifications to the common areas at ground floor level.

This week planners in City Hall granted permission for the development.

The former bottling plant is located near County Hall between City Print and the Topaz station. The plant was sold by Coca-Cola in 2005.

The applicants previously said the site is perfect for student accommodation given its proximity to UCC and CIT.

It is one of a number of student apartment developments for which, applications have been lodged or already granted.

Plans were recently lodged for a major student apartment development on the Square Deal site on Washington Street.
