Six Mayfield homes burgled on Friday night by Dublin gang

A Garda warning has been issued in the Mayfield area after a spate of burglaries in the surrounding area.

Superintendent Mick Comyns said there has been as many as 40 burglaries in the past month, including six last Friday night.

Supt Comyns said the burglaries are occurring at any day of the week, between the hours of 4pm to 9pm.

“These are travelling criminals who are using high-powered vehicles to drive down from Dublin on the motorway.

“They are hitting vacant homes in the Mayfield, Glanmire, Little Island area and even some further in around the city.” Supt Comyns said these criminals are slick operators who know what they are doing.

“They are taking cash and jewellery and safes and then heading back up the motorway to Dublin at high speed.”

The Mayfield Superintendent advised local residents to be vigilant regarding securing their property and ongoing activity around their neighbourhoods.

“We are asking people to ensure their homes are securely locked up and ask neighbours to look after vacant houses.

“If you are going out, to town, to mass, wherever, make sure your valuables are well secured and your property is locked up.

“If you have a safe, make sure it is anchored or it will be taken in the event of a break-in.”

Supt Comyns said the force was on high alert with regards to the issue and he asked local residents to report anything suspicious to them as soon as possible.

“If you notice something out of the ordinary in your neighbourhood, just pick up the phone and give us a call.”
