Third defibrillator for Cork city centre

A new Automated External Defibrillator (AED) has been installed on Patrick’s Street, thanks to EireMed and Zenith Menswear.

The AED was donated to Nigel O’Sullivan of Zenith from by EireMed after he suffered a massive heart attack in Blarney in October and received treatment from Blarney community first responders.

Nigel, who underwent bypass surgery at Cork University Hospital, then donated the life-saving device to Cork Lions Club, which is a non-profit voluntary organisation which fundraises for local charities.

The donation was made to help the Cork City Centre Defibrillator Project which provides AEDs to the public by installing them around the city.

This third AED has been installed, with the support of Savoy management, on the wall to the left of the Savoy Patrick Street entrance.

The unit is available to the public 24 hours a day and is accessed by entering a code on the digital keypad, which is obtained by dialing 999 or 112.

President of Cork Lions Club Brian Daly said “We’re delighted to accept Nigel’s kind donation.

“Nigel is a great example of the benefit of having ready access to an AED. Nigel's support in getting the cabinet installed at the Savoy is very much appreciated.

“We would also like to thank the public for their support of our fundraising towards the city centre defibrillator project.” Anyone wishing to support the Cork City Centre Defibrillator Project can do so by making a donation through their website www.corklionsclub.ie.
