McNulty is the hero to deny Dundalk as Cork City land a historic double

Cork City 1 Dundalk 1

(Cork City win 5-3 on penalties)

MARK McNulty was the Cork City hero at the Aviva as his penalty save from Michael Duffy in a dramatic shoot-out in the FAI Cup final saw the club secure their first ever double.

McNulty had been at the centre of controversy in the build-up as he was criticised by the Dundalk manager Stephen Kenny and his players after footage emerged online of the Ballincollig native singing a controversial song directed at Dundalk following City's league victory.

The veteran stopper put that to one side though and proved his class on the big stage for John Caulfield's charges.

Sub Achille Campion scored an equalisier in extra-time after Niclas Vemmelund had given the Louth side the lead. City had the better of the first half of normal time and Dundalk the second, but it finished scoreless before a tense additional 30 minutes and the gripping penalty action.
