Get ready to party, Cork!

IT’S arrived at last, the wait is over, and 18 days of terrific Live At The Marquee concerts get under way tomorrow.

Thousands of music fans will pack the Marquee for performances in a three-week series, now in its 12th year in Cork, and run by Aiken Promotions.

Over the past number of the weeks, the Marquee has been patiently erected and is now ready to be lifted by audiences delighting in Cork performances.

Within a short walking distance from Cork city centre, it’s an easy venue to access and exit, close to the newly revamped Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

It’s seen many legends play in the past, and this year plays hosts to 16 performances playing across 18 nights.

The concert series will be opened tomorrow night by Picture This, who also play on Saturday night, while on Sunday next it’s Eddie Vedder, followed by Cliff Richard on June 15, Al Porter on June 16, Jenny Greene and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra on June 17 and 18, Elton John on June 20, Elbow on June 21, Tommy Tiernan on Jun 24, Walking On Cars on June 26, The Coronas on June 30, Frankie Vallie & The Four Seasons on July 6, Gavin James on July 7, Nathan Carter on July 8, Emeli Sandé on July 10, Bryan Adams on July 11 and Christy Moore on July 14.

Some seriously good choices there in a city that has badly needed a good concert venue for years.

It will also bring a boost of millions to businesses in the city, and last year attracted 82,000 music fans, and over the years the Live At The Marquee series has attracted 1.4 million festival goers.

And as The Coronas paid a secret visit to the site last weekend, they remarked that they are very much looking forward to playing Cork again this year.

Little Hours will support Picture This while Stephanie Rainey will support Emeli Sandé.

Go along and raise the tent!

See tonight's Downtown (June 8) for an eight-page special on the Live at the Marquee.
