Govt 'making no effort' to avert crippling strike





Opposition parties are hitting out at the Government for "making no effort" to avert next week's public sector strike.

Public servants are planning to down tools on Tuesday, November 24 in protest at the proposed cuts in next months Budget.

Trade union leaders say there has been little progress in talks with the Government on its plans to cut public sector pay by €1.3bn.

The Labour Party leader Eamon Gilmore, speaking in the Dáil, said the Government has tacitly accepted the strike is going ahead.
