CSO figures reveal drop in poverty rate 11/19/2009 - 12:57:08 PM One in seven Irish people were at risk of poverty in 2008, down from one in six in 2007, according to the Central Statistics Office. A survey on Income and Living Conditions shows the rate of consistant poverty fell in the year to 4.2% - a decrease of almost 1%. However, the figures show children are the most likely to experience deprivation with over one third suffering at least one form of deprivation. Overall Ireland's risk of poverty rate is 18% - 2 points above the EU average of 16. |
