Clean-up begins after worst flooding in 10 years

A massive clean-up operation begins today after some of the worst flooding in the country in the last 10 years.

Up to 100 Defence Forces personnel worked through the night in badly flooded areas with the south and west hardest hit.

Many train services have also been affected by the heavy rain.

Galway and Athlone services were cancelled with the exception of the 7.15am Galway to Athenry service and the 8am Athenry to Galway route.

There will be no bus transfer available for cancelled services between Galway and Athlone this morning, due to road flooding.

In Sligo, there are bus transfers in operation between Carrick-on-Shannon and Longford on the Sligo-Dublin line.

This is also the case between Limerick and Ennis due to flooding and bus transfers remain in place between Wicklow and Gorey.

Other services are running as normal but passengers are advised there may be some minor delays due to flooding.
