NRA to open part of M6 by this evening

The National Roads Authority has said it is working along with the company building the as-yet unfinished M6 motorway, to open part of the route.

The Galway area has been among those worst hit by the flooding of recent days.

The main Dublin road is flooded at Craughwell. Ballinasloe is also experiencing flooding after the river Suck burst its banks.

The N6 Galway/Dublin Rd is closed at Ballinasloe.

In a statment the NRA said it is confident a 26km section of the motorway by-passing the badly affected Cruaghwell and Loughrea areas will be opened, with one lane of traffic in each direction, by this evening.

While it also hopes to open a 5km section of the motorway by-passing Ballinasloe, again with one lane of traffic in each direction, this evening also.
