Doherty marches past Mehta in Shanghai 9/7/2009 - 10:21:17 AM ![]() Former world champion Ken Doherty wasted little time marching past India’s Aditya Mehta 5-0 in the qualifying round of the Shanghai Masters. Doherty will face Tian Pengfei next, after the Chinese player brushed aside England’s Andrew Higginson. Doherty was always in control – and after a 54 break settled the second frame, Mehta’s only significant resistance came a in a protracted safety exchange in a scrappy fourth. Higginson took the opening frame against Pengfei but was never in the contest thereafter, going out 5-1. Scotland's Marcus Campbell had a similarly easy passage past China's Jun Tang, running out a 5-1 winner to book a first-round meeting with his compatriot Stephen Hendry. But another Scot, Graeme Dott, had a struggle before getting the better of the United Arab Emirates’ Mohamed Shehab 5-3. |
