 Gilligan bids to delay High Court challenge 9/6/2010 - 12:01:18 PM  Convicted criminal John Gilligan is looking to delay his High Court challenge to a charge of possessing a mobile phone in his cell at Portlaoise prison. The 58-year-old is facing a further five years in prison if convicted of having the phone on July 30, 2008. He claims the charge raises issues of double jeopardy as he has already been disciplined within the prison for allegedly having the contraband. Having arrived with a large police escort his lawyers claim they need more time to review legal documents before the case gets under way, a move strongly opposed by the DPP. |
